Saskatchewan

Message from the S.P.R.A.

Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association would like to encourage all residents of Saskatchewan to get out and be active! S.P.R.A. is inviting community leaders to celebrate the warmer weather by organizing and promoting events and programs that encourage families of all ages to adopt healthier lifestyles. The possibilities are endless and can be as simple as getting your colleagues together for a daily lunch hour walk, or setting up an "eating light" cooking class for your friends.  Why not take the initiative, become a "leader" and encourage your friends, family or coworkers to get SummerActive with you?

So take advantage of everything a Saskatchewan summer has to offer and get up, go out, be SummerActive!

SummerActive Challenge

Its time to shake off the winter doldrums and re-commit to a healthier more active lifestyle.  How about taking the 2008 edition of the SummerActive Challenge which begins May 11?

The SummerActive Challenge 2008 is an in motion project sponsored by Regina in motion the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and Regina Partners for Healthy Living.

Beginning on May 11, when participants in the SummerActive Challenge complete 10 minutes of physical activity, they fill in one square on the Activity Log.  If they participate in 30 minutes of physical activity it is equal to 3 squares. All Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region residents who participate in the SummerActive Challenge 2008 are eligible to win great prizes donated by community agencies and businesses.

Download the Activity Log Sheet to record your activities over the 6 weeks of SummerActive.  Why not challenge your kids, your co-workers, your book club or anyone else you can think of to participate with you?  You can participate individually or as a team.  This week’s theme for SummerActive is Get Up, Go Out, Be SummerActive.  Please print these forms to display at your workplace or distribute them electronically.  Include the FAQ sheet to help you answer questions you may get about SummerActive Challenge 2008.  There will be prizes locally and participants can also register here on the SummerActive website for a chance to win additional prizes.

"Walk a Block at 7:00 O'Clock" - May 13th

On Tuesday May 13 at 7:00 o’clock, we ask that everyone go out and walk around their block (or around the soccer field, or to the store).  We would like to see Regina’s streets and parks alive with active people on the evening of May 13.  For more information, dowload the flyer for the second annual “Walk a Block at 7:00 O’Clock” event.
